Pruritis Vulvae (vulvar itching)

Pruritus vulvae simply refers to itching of the vulva.  Persistent vulvar pruritis is relatively common and may have a number of causes, including vulvar skin conditions (such as lichen sclerosus), vulvar atrophy (thinning of the skin due to decrease in testosterone and estrogen), contact sensitivity to irritants or allergens, recurrent vulvar infections, and chronic irritation due to scratching (lichen simplex chronicus).

Treatment

It is important to determine the cause of the itching to develop a treatment plan.
